“If a man knows not which port he sails, no wind is favorable.” – Seneca
I see this wise quote in action in the ambivalence that often plagues those affected by their own substance use disorder or the active addiction of a loved one.
“Should I give them $20?”
“Should I bond them out of jail?”
“I want help, but tomorrow I will make the call.”
“Why do I always walk out of treatment?”
Either you support recovery, or you will feed an addiction.
It is pretty simple, but it isn’t easy.
